Slip into my white nikes

OK. I love that Kid Cudi song—”Day and Night“—original version kicks buttocks. But that is not why I painted my calipers white. It is the only colour that would work with my car. The combo of green and white are awesome together. Why change what works.
Me, having never touched anything mechanical on my cars ever—not even changing the oil— gets this great idea to replace my most of my brake system. DIY style!!! First I could not find the parts anywhere, that is partly due to my car being that rare sexy beast she is. My good friend @panvsman tracked down the parts for me. It took him two months to track everything down… Well most of that time was spent convincing me why remanufactured calipers were just as good if not better than the OEM parts.
Anyway, so I get the parts in and did not realize how heavy, HEAVY they are. The brake rotors are around 90 lbs., calipers were 40 lbs. WTF! I had no clue that these parts weighed so much, I was thinking forty pounds at most for the parts. I bet the UPS guy was damning me to hell as he delivered these replacements.
So today, I had a couple hours to kill and decided to go ahead and paint the calipers. I started by using brake cleaner to clean the parts. That took about 45 min. Why? Cause I’m anal like that. Word. I didn’t want to get the cleaner into the rubber piston housing, et cetera, et cetera. My arms were getting tired at this point. “Arms?” you say. Having NEVER done any mechanical work before, I don’t have the set up either. I need a work bench or table out there.
So with jelly like arms, And the sun starting to bear down. I decided to move the project indoors, I took the calipers into the living room to paint them. My living room is rather large, its one of those great rooms that that flows from entrance to the dining room. I would say that the ceiling is at least 30 feet high.
I went to town on the calipers. Applying paint meticulously to each nook and cranny, just like buttering an english muffin. Yum. Not even ten minutes into the project, I was in a state of flow. So clear. So focused. So high on paint fumes. I thought I could touch the ceiling, if not the sky! That can of paint was 4 ounces. FOUR OUNCES! I immediately ran around the house opening all the windows.
It took a good 2 hours to finish the painting the calipers. To all of you my friends out there in the interwebs, I would suggest that you DIY even if you don’t know how (like me) find out & go to town!
